Hi,
Not sure which board to post this on, but I am trying to set up RDM(Free) to see if my company wants to use this. I'm kind of lone-wolfing this at this point, playing around with the free version and seeing what it has to offer, which is an amazing amount of stuff. In order to put together a plan to see if they want to roll this out, I just wanted to see how much of the setup can be automated.
Currently we have about 12 sites with anywhere form 4 to 50 devices that I would like to possibly get this set up to run. Here's what I have:
Each site has an Excel Spreadsheet that has really only 2 fields I would need: Device ID(For access) and Room/Office name(To make the list easier to navigate).
The admins would be logging in with their own credentials, so pulling a user name from the Excel document wouldn't provide data, since it just has the local machine(Non-admin) login in the list.
The Domain would always remain the same, but we would have them separated by Site, and possibly a sub-group in that, but most likely just one group for each site.
So what I would like to be able to do is create a bunch of sessions from the Excel sheets. They are separated by Site, so if we deploy this, we'd just create a group from each spreadsheet individually. Also, if machines get replaced or switched around, I'd be curious if there is a way to have RDM check the spreadsheet, to see if there are updated entries.
I mean, entering this stuff independently is not really that hard, I'm just curious how much I can set up to happen automatically. Like I said, this is an independent experiment, so I have to stick with the free version right now, but the more automation and the less room for error, the more likely the higher ups may be to OK it.
Thanks for any help, and if I wasn't clear on anything, please let me know.
This is so far an absolutely awesome piece of software.
