I've now implemented a shared folder to store default type files. I have yet to look into security for this folder (as we don't want just anybody to modify the defaults).
But anyhow, in my opinion things like default settings for sessions, credentials, folders etc. should be a configuration 'option' of the datasource. Having to change a 'user' option and having to distribute a new config (or just distribute a new msi package with those settings) is a pain in the ass when working with large teams.
We (as RDM admins) should be able to define settings, paths etc within the datasource and those settings need to be used by all clients connected to that datasource.
